The Cosmic Neutrino Practicum (CNP) is a summer school that focuses on teaching graduate students core skills to do research in astroparticle physics. The summer school will take place at Harvard University, located in Cambridge, MA.
The three core lectures of the Practicum will be:
- Neutrino Telescope Basics, Data Analysis, and Current Measurements (Aswhathi Bagalopal)
- Neutrino Interactions, Simulation and Event Generation (Nick Kamp)
- Reconstruction and Machine Learning (Thorsten Gluesenkamp)
These core lectures will be supplemented with additional topical lectures
- Neutrino Detectors (Will Thompson)
- Beyond the Standard Model Physics with High-Energy Neutrinos (Qinrui Liu)
- Neutrino Source Modelling (Mainak Mukhopadyay)
- Beyond the Standard Model Physics with Neutrino Sources (Gonzalo Herrera)
- Diffuse Astrophysical Neutrinos (Vedant Basu)
- Neutrino Source Searches (Sarah Mancina)
The Practicum will provide a complete introduction to high-energy neutrino astrophysics. The summer school is aimed at both students working on theory or experiment. Besides the proposed lectures, students will work together on the afternoons on problem sheets designed by the lecturers, directly connected to potential new research projects. Students are also expected to give a 10 min presentation on their own research in allocated afternoon slots.
The lecturers have been chosen to be early-career researchers in the field that have great first-hand experience on the topics of the summer school. This workshop serves a dual purpose: to both train the next-generation of astrophysical neutrino hunters and to also develop new pedagogical techniques for graduate education. Lecturers of this Practicum will receive special training from researchers in physics education to produce the best lectures possible.
Through the generous support of the Heising-Simons Foundation, a limited number of complete fellowships are available for participants of the Practicum.
To participate in the Practicum please submit your application through this website by March 27th.
This Practicum offers financial supports for a limited number students (lodging, travel or stipend). Please let us know in the registration form, and whenever appropriate, ask your advisor to discuss this aspect in their recommendation letter.
For online participants, the workshop will be broadcasted under the following zoom coordinates: XXX
We look forward to seeing you in CNP-2026!
